Yan Huang is a sculptor, lighting and furniture designer of bespoke and mixed media objects for residential/commercial architectural or interior/exterior design projects that are beautiful, highly functional and collectable.
Yan holds a BA Industrial Design (RMIT), a BA Fine Art (Xiamen) and spent 24 years in the USA, Italy, China and Australia, as a designer of concept and production car interiors for global automotive brands, including General Motors’ Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, VW, Daewoo, and the one-off custom made aXcess Australia concept car, built to showcase Australia's innovative components industry to the world's major automotive manufacturers, generating $1.25 billion in export orders. Her experience in brand and design management of cross functional teams instilled the great discipline of delivering highly creative styling ‘on brief, on time and on budget’.
Yan’s one-off and limited-edition pieces are managed with the same precision and care from concept to execution and delivery. She works autonomously, collaboratively or to a brief, as required. The studio is equipped to produce large-scale timber, fiberglass and metal objects, and maintains a collection of design objects available for purchase.
Yan has been represented in group and solo exhibitions in the USA and Australia. Her work is held in private and public collections in Shanghai, New York and Melbourne. The aXcess Australia Concept Car was acquired by the Melbourne Museum and her work has recently been acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
